I have made clear very much-ly how I feel about Generative ai and it’s awful effects on this world culturally (stealing from all authors and artists), physically (using up all our precious water and land resources as well as poisoning whole communities), and mentally (ai psychosis as well as creating just a huge wall of distrust on any video or image we see as well as with writing). You start to feel like you’re screaming into the void.
The last week has been VERY validating. For some insane reason…colleges and universities across the land decided what better way to inspire the youth as they take that scary step out into the world than by…inviting tech bros who will tell these kids that they are, in fact…screwed. One literally said “you know, everything you learned as a freshman is probably obsolete”. WHAT?!? Just…it’s useless and all that money you paid is a waste. All these smug speakers were shocked when they got booed. One school used an ai program to read out names and it just messed them up or straight up left them out. You can’t even get the ai to read a list? One of the universities even had a policy AGAINST students using ai and then they get a lecture about how it’s the “future”. They weren’t booing enough. The one jackass that said their knowledge was obsolete also said “it’s inevitable. You have to deal with it.” I sincerely wished someone had “dealt with it” by throwing a folding chair at his skull and drew blood like an old school ECW street match.
The ONLY person who mentioned ai was Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak who was actually cheered for saying “you all have AI-actual intelligence”. The kids losing it at those other a-holes gave me a smile and a little hope. The “elite” going to keep pushing these damnable things. There are SO many planned for the country. They are using “eminent domain” to steal our land and forcing the actual water and energy bills onto all of us. It is a theft of resources and wealth the world has not seen before. I fear it may get violent. REAL violent.
