Sketch Sunday
May 03, 2026
This week went FAST. I didn’t get a lot of show-able work done. Had some ideas for future projects and got those started. This brings up an interesting “conversation” I had on Instagram the other day. (Okay, it was comments between a few people.) People always post their “sketchbooks” on Instagram and they are these immaculate “sketch books”. These are straight up art books being presented as sketch books. This intimidates inexperienced arts a LOT. What I try to give you here is a peek at my process. Most of what I show here is neat…ish. But a LOT of my books go unseen because honestly…they only make sense to one person. Me. Just gobs of visual gibberish.
I did a couple of sketches but the main reason I didn’t get my usual doodling done was some more productive scribbling. I got the paper I mentioned on Friday and did the drawing from that post on that paper. Then I figured out a little Gelly Roll pen hack from the interwebs that makes the ink flow a little better and spent some time playing with THAT. Playing with art supplies is the best. People that advocate for stupid ai as a way to create ANYTHING can suck it.
So here’s my playing with a Gelly Roll pen and some other stuff. The big swath of white at the top is actually from a Presto! whiteout pen that works wonderfully for these projects.
Then we have actual sketches. I can’t remember if I saw a bird post or a dino post…but something made me think about an actual Tyrano-chicken and here we go.
Finally…another Swamp Thing. He’s just fun. (Also my hope is if I keep manifesting he will appear and start going ape…er…plant shit on data centers.)
I hope every one had a good weekend. If you protested on Friday I hope your points were made and you wore sunscreen. Be safe this week and find joy where you can!
